Pure Plant Oil (PPO) is often confused with what has become termed biodiesel.
Biodiesel is essentially chemically processed vegetable oil. PPO, as the name suggests, is just pure plant oil without any chemical processing – it is produced literally by crushing seeds and filtering the oil.
The fact that no chemical processing needs to take place means the fuel has a very low energy footprint – or in plain English is better for the environment. The energy footprint of PPO according to a respected agricultural report (the Levington report) shows that PPO actually has an energy foot print 25 times smaller than biodiesel – meaning it is far better for the environment to use the unprocessed oil rather than biodiesel.
In order to use PPO, diesel engines need to be modified. We can modify around 60% of diesel engines and we use the very best technology available in the UK – developed in Germany over the past 25 years where the use of PPO is much more commonplace, with tens of thousands of vehicles running on PPO.

PPO is relatively new to the UK and as such has not had that much public representation, apart from the occasional horror story of people pouring old chip fat into their unmodified vehicles, which in nearly all cases would create severe engine damage.
The technology we use makes it safe to use PPO or diesel in the same engine – so once converted the engine is multi-fuel compatible.
