Waste oil research and issues

Blooming Futures only recommends the use of Pure Plant Oil (PPO) that reaches the V DIN 51 605 fuel standard.

We have done extensive research into the use of used cooking oil as a fuel for converted engines. At this stage all we can say is "use it at your own risk". There are a number of areas of concern centred on the consistency of reliably producing a quality fuel from used cooking oil. While it is possible to produce a form of fuel grade vegetable oil from used cooking oil it can be difficult to produce it consistently and it is virtually impossible to get used cooking oil to the DIN 51605 standard. The long term engine effects of using oil that doesn't reach this standard are cause for concern.

Blooming Futures researched and produced bio-diesel for several years.  A number of factors influenced to move into converting engines to run on Pure Plant Oil. Bio-diesel is made through chemically processing oils. If you would like to know more about making Bio-diesel yourself, please visit the Collaborative Biodiesel Tutorial

We only recommend the use of Bio-diesel made to the DIN EN 14214 standard.

Other fuels made from used cooking oil are often of dubious quality.  We would recommend caution in using such fuels. The use of such fuels should be considered experimental particularly in modern high speed direct injection engines.
